The Yao live in many different areas and after doing some research on the birds in each area I have found that many species are in more then one area that the Yao live in. To start each place has many different species, Hunan has 201 species, Yunnan has 621, Guangxi has 130, Guangdong has 230, Jiangxi has 224, Guizhou has 121 and Thailand has 876 species. I was able to narrow down a few bird species that are in these areas. The White-rumped Munia, Eurasian Tree Sparrow, Black-faced Bunting, Olive-backed Pipit, White Wagtail, Gray Wagtail and the Crested Myna.
White-rumped Munia
This bird is 10 to 11 cm long. It has a stubby grey bill and a long black pointed tail. The adults are brown above but are lighter below and have a white rump. there are different subspecies of this bird. This bird is in the least concern range.
Eurasian Tree Sparrow
The Eurasian Tree Sparrow is a small stocky bird with short legs. Outside of North America it varies in size. It likes to eat grains and seeds. When nesting these birds lay 4-7 eggs. Also the birds are concerned to be of least concern therefore they are in no danger of extinction.
Black-faced Bunting
The Blacked-faced Bunting is in no danger of extinction and is of least concern as well. The bunting lays 4 to 5 eggs at a time either on the ground or in the trees. They are mostly brown with streaks of black. The females are lighter and softer in the brown color then the males.
Olive-backed Pipit
The Olive-backed Pipit is yet another bird in these areas that is of least concern. These birds have their nests on the ground and lay between 3 to 5 eggs. They like to eat insects, grass and seeds.
White Wagtail
The White Wagtail is a slender bird of 16.5 to 19 cm long although in East Asia the subgroups can go up to 21 cm long. They have a lifespan of about 12 years in the wild. these birds like to eat different types of insects such as beetles, dragonflies, spiders and worms. They do have a wide variety for a diet and do not migrate in the winter like most birds do. This is yet another bird of least concern.
Gray Wagtail
The upper parts of this bird are grey and yellow and the under part being whitish and showing the contrast of colors. These birds breed during April and July with the nest placed near fast running streams or rivers in between stones and roots. They have 3 to 5 speckled eggs at a times and live about 8 years in the wild. These birds like to eat beetles, adult flies and mayflies.
Crested Myna
The Crested Myna has a bill that is a dull whitish compared to other Myna's that are orange-yellow.
